You Don't Eat Soup With a Fork, Do You?
Using regular interconnect cables to hookup a
subwoofer is like eating soup with a fork. Why would you even want to try? Even
if a standard interconnect is high quality, it still wasn't designed for use
with a subwoofer. Low frequencies travel differently than higher frequencies
making it critical for subwoofer cable construction to be tailored to meet low
frequency demands. What's the result of using the wrong cable? Bass response
that's weak, distorted, unfocused, or all three.
In a Land Far Far Away.
Subwoofers are often banished to the nether
regions of a room, far away from the rest of the system's components. That means
longer cable runs that are vulnerable to interference attacks. Interference can
cause buzzes and hums in a subwoofer. Interference can do a real body slam to
the performance of a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound processor's Low Frequency
Effects (LFE) channel.
