Mordaunt Short’s Classic
Series loudspeakers provide an exceptionally developed and insightful listening
experience,
underlined by an authoritative sense of scale thanks to the larger 16.5cm mid/bass
drivers.
Constructed to exacting
standards, the models in the Classic Series feature advanced driver technologies,
materials and manufacturing
processes to deliver exceptional sound quality and wonderful style.
Our remarkable Classic Series
loudspeakers are equally at home in both two channel stereo set-ups and integrated
into multi-channel Home Theatre solutions.
All-new mid/bass drivers
At the heart of the Avant™ range of loudspeakers are new optimised, re-profiled,
propriety CPC™ mid/bass drivers designed using the latest CAD technology.
The drivers incorporate unique radial ribbing on the surface of the anodised aluminium
cone. This ensures excellent critical rigidity at the cone edges for truer piston-like
behaviour.
Front coupled surround edges
A new manufacturing process involving a folded return assembly, enables coupling
of the surround edges to the front of the aluminium cone. Not only does this
deliver improved damping but, it also allows a more linear motion of the drive
unit. The surround sits on a proprietary shallow profile, steel chassis.
Vented, structured
steel chassis
The Avant drive units incorporate novel steel front mounting, which features
a unique vented, multi-fixing point design. The combination of extra strength,
provided by the profiled steel and multiple fixing points create optimal structural
rigidity. This produces a more linear operation with lower mechanical noise.
Enhanced cabinet
construction
The Avant’s revised cabinet design makes use of an optimised internal
bracing layout at critical points and uses a new construction technique that
leads to improved structural integrity and acoustic damping. A reduction of
the cabinet’s width, by 15mm, also helps performance, while sidemounted,
moulded cabinet feet offer greater stability without increasing the overall
footprint of the speaker.
Lightweight cone
to voice coil coupling
Low mass, high efficiency, viscous coupling of cone to voice coil, using our
“5 POINT” polymer sub-cone and aerospace approved, viscoelastic
bonding system.
Completely remodeled
front plates
The Avant range introduces a new front plate design, featuring smoothed inner
tweeter flares. This shape delivers improved dispersion and better imaging.
Also, a reversed radius detail offers improved baffle coupling for flatter frequency
response.
Established in 1967, Mordaunt
Short is responsible for the development of some of the world’s most critically
acclaimed loudspeakers.
From the beginning, Mordaunt Short has produced loudspeakers
of the very highest order which is underlined by that fact that our first ever
range enjoyed exclusive distribution through Harrods of Knightsbridge, London.
The very essence of Mordaunt Short can be found in each and
every speaker they create. Whilst Mordaunt Short is proud of their heritage
and the fact that there one of the few remaining British owned and engineered
speaker brands, they never rest on tradition. Instead, Mordaunt Short is always
in search of new technologies to take you as close as possible to the music
you love.
An incredibly forward-thinking company, Mordaunt Short produces
some of the most technologically advanced loudspeakers available today. All
Mordaunt Short products are a testament to this innovative spirit and style
but it is most apparent in models such as Genie and Performance. Their expertise
allows them to constantly challenge the status quo – does a speaker really
have to be made from wood? Why does it have to be rectangular?
But the most important resource they have, are the people who
work for them. With a dedicated team of ten engineers and a purpose-built research
and development centre in London, Mordaunt Short has some of the best resources
in the industry.
With an engineering pedigree second-to-none, you won’t
be surprised to hear that Mordaunt Short designs each and every component in
their products to their own specifications.
After a lengthy development programme, all Mordaunt Short products
are put before the ultimate test – the human ear. And not just any ear
will do. Before you get to listen to Mordaunt Short speakers, Mordaunt Short’s
head of acoustic engineering signs off each and every design.
Since its foundation, Mordaunt Short has produced legendary
designs including the Festival, Carnival and Pageant models of the early-Seventies
which was followed by the Pearl Edition range of the late-Nineties right through
to today’s Performance and Genie ranges. Every one of these models was
conceived from one continuing vision - to build the best loudspeaker money can
buy, combining engineering excellence, an enthusiasm for innovation and carefully
controlled manufacturing processes.
