Monster Digital Audio Cable
Monster Cable digital audio cables most commonly carry digital audio signals from the outputs of DVD players, digital or high definition cable boxes and high definition satellite boxes. In addition to these common devices, Music Servers some CD players and computers such as an Apple iMac can also take advantage of a digital audio cable. The two most common types of digital audio cable are the optical digital audio cable and the digital audio coaxial cable. While many devices have both types of outputs available, some devices only allow one or the other so it is important you know which digital audio outputs your specific device has before you buy. The same can be true for the device you plan on connecting your digital audio cable to, although most modern day home theater receivers offer several of both types.
A major difference between the two types of cables are that an optical digital audio cable uses light to transmit it's digital data while a digital audio coaxial cable which looks similar but is not the same as an analog RCA type audio cable uses an electrical signal to transmit it's signal. Just as with it's analog counterparts, it is very important to use a high quality cable to get the most performance from your components.
Analog Audio Cable
Monster Cable analog audio cables are commonplace with a wide variety of applications such as; connecting a stereo preamplifier or home theater preamplifier processor to a stereo amplifier or multi-channel amplifier; connecting a CD player to a receiver, preamplifier or integrated amplifier; connecting a SACD or DVD audio players multi-channel outputs to a home theater receiver or preamplifier and the list goes on.
Like digital audio cables, there are two major types of connections that are used most often. The first type is the RCA style connection which is the most common and the second type is the balanced XLR. RCA analog audio cables are used on most every device you can think of while balanced XLR cables are typically reserved for only the highest end, highest quality devices. Balanced XLR Cables offer the advantage of a much lower noise floor than RCA style connections and in our experience we have found that bass response also seems to be much improved as well. Both Adcom, with their new GTP870HD preamplifier processor and Cambridge Audio's new 840a integrated amplifier and 840C CD player offer Balanced XLR cable connection options. In addition, you will find that most all of our higher end Monster power amplifiers, Adcom amplifiers and Marsh Sound Design amplifiers have both RCA style and Balanced XLR audio input options.
!Connection Tip!
Do you use your DVD Player to also play CD's? If so, in addition to using a digital audio cable to connect your DVD player to your home theater system, try using a high quality Monster Cable analog audio cable to connect your DVD players audio output to your system for much improved sound. The reason why this is recommended is because many DVD players come equipped with much better quality digital-to-analog converters than what your receiver typically offers and when you use a digital audio cable alone you are bypassing these better quality components. Don't throw away your digital audio cable though, you will still need to make this connection for your Dolby Digital and DTS to work!!
